Letter #234: Dear Self

May 22, 2011

Dear self,

It’s day five of us being at camp, and we’re already worn out. The hit your pillow and you’re out in less than a minute kind of exhausted. This is the best kind of tired. Knowing you worked hard during the day and left everything you had in your tank up for grabs is a good feeling.

Today, klinics begin. This means about half our staff shows up to be trained in boat driving, kayaking, sailing, canoeing and dance. We have lots to do between this morning and this afternoon when people arrive. Remember to pray for new staff’s nerves and impact this summer.

Still not sure exactly what our role looks like this summer. Let’s continue to sort this out in the next few days. We did discover dealing with a flooding cabin has been added to our job description. Good work figuring out how to turn the water off when all maintenance men were off on Saturday. We can’t forget to get that fixed for real though. Our eyes are becoming more and more like ‘camp eyes.’ This is a good thing.

We’re also remembering how little time we have to do personal thing at camp. We must fight for time to read, write, blog, be alone. Don’t forget this. Also, don’t forget to have fun. If it’s not fun, then it’s not worth is.

Good luck today,
